James W. Schelfhaudt, the artist/curator of Compass Point Gallery, is an amateur photographer living in Southern California, having previously made his home in various New England and Florida cities. He earned an Associate's Degree in Science from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts, and a Bachelor's Degree in English from the University of Massachusetts in Boston/Amherst. Originally drawn to black and white photography as an expression of shape, texture, form, pattern, and light, he has now embraced digital photography for the added dimensions of color, convenience, creative control, immediacy, and wide latitude for error.
